Step Up Cymru
Step Up Cymru is a pilot mentoring scheme created for individuals in Wales who come from under represented groups.

The scheme has been created as a partnership between the National Assembly for Wales, the Welsh Government and the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA).
Step Up Cymru provides mentoring opportunities to individuals from under represented groups to encourage them to get more involved with democracy in Wales and to increase their confidence in dealing with elected representatives. 34 participants from across Wales are being mentored by local councillors and Assembly Members with the aim of increasing the individuals’ involvement with democratic bodies and developing their roles as active citizens and community ambassadors.
Step Up Cymru was designed to not only provide experiences for the Mentees but also to educate and inform Mentors of their constituents’ issues. We have already seen councillors and Assembly Members getting involved with the interests of their Mentees and being supported by them in this additional learning.
About The Scheme
We were keen to develop a new scheme which would appeal to people across Wales who were keen to get involved in democracy, but didn’t know how.
About the scheme >>
Mentees
We have 34 Mentees on the Step Up Cymru Mentoring scheme who come from all across Wales. Each of them represents one or more groups of people who are generally under-represented within Welsh democracy.
