South East Wales Regional Committee (July 1999 - April 2003)

Welcome to the South East Wales Regional Committee Web Pages from Owen John Thomas, A.M. Chair
The National Assembly for Wales established four regional committees in 1999. The South East Wales Regional Committee covers Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan. The role of the regional committees is to advise the National Assembly on:
- matters affecting the regions;
- the effect of Assembly policies in those regions; and
- the work of public bodies in the regions.
Regional committees will form a crucial link between the National Assembly and local communities.
The South East Wales Regional Committee currently provides the opportunity for members of the public to ask questions of the members of the Committee on matters that are the National Assembly’s responsibility. Members see this as a crucial link between the National Assembly and the people of Wales.
