Assembly Committee to undertake review into economic inactivity in Wales

The National Assembly’s Economic Development and Transport Committee is undertaking a consultation exercise as part of its policy review into the high level of economic inactivity in Wales.

The Review will look at the current levels of economic inactivity in Wales and the factors underlying them. The Committee will examine the policies to raise economic activity currently being pursued by the Welsh Assembly Government and other agencies and intends to conclude by making recommendations for the development of policy in this area.

The Committee has written to businesses and statutory and voluntary organisations all over Wales asking for their views. When it has considered these, the Committee may invite further oral evidence.

Christine Gwyther AM, Chair of the Committee, said: "Raising levels of economic activity in Wales is a major factor in improving Wales’s economic performance. The Committee would very much like to hear the views of all interested parties. "
