Education and Lifelong Learning Committee
The Committee’s broad remit was based on the portfolio of the Assembly Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning. The portfolio covered, amongst other things:
- Schools;
- further education;
- higher education;
- skills development;
- the youth service; and
- the careers service.
In line with the change toMinisterial titles,from 1 April 2006the Education and Lifelong Learning Committee was renamed the Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills Committee.
The main functions of subject committees, as set out in Standing Order 9, were: policy development; scrutiny of Ministers and Assembly Sponsored Bodies; and scrutiny of legislation. They also advised on budget allocations.
