Committee on the Government of Wales Bill

The Government of Wales Bill, published on 8 December 2005, sought to implement the proposals contained in the Better Governance for Wales White Paper, published in June 2005.

The Bill provided for, amongst other things, changes to the Assembly's structure, legislative powersand electoral arrangements.

The National Assembly for Wales established a special committee, under Standing Order 8.1, to consider the provisions contained in the Bill. The Committee reported its recommendations as appropriate, and ceased to exist on the date that the Government of Wales Bill receives Royal Assent.

The committee's terms of reference were to:

• Consider the proposals set out in the Bill;
• Consider such other matters arising from the Bill as the Committee may determine.
