Business Committee
The Business Committee advises on the management of the Assembly’s business and on general practice and procedure of the Assembly. The National Assembly’s Standing Order 11 provides full details of the Committee’s remit.
The Presiding Officer chairs the meetings, which are attended by the Leader of the House and a Business Manager from each of the parties represented in the Assembly.
The Committee meets weekly on a Tuesday when the Assembly is in session, to comment on proposals for the organisation of Government business and to determine the organisation of non-Government and Assembly business in Plenary. These meetings are held in private in accordance with Standing Order 11.9. The Committee agreed on 12th June 2007 that the minutes of private meetings would be published six weeks after each meeting in the spirit of openness and inclusivity.
The Committee meets publicly on an ad hoc basis, to make recommendations on the general practice and procedure of the Assembly in the conduct of its business, including any proposals for the re-making or revisions of Standing Orders. These meetings are subject to the normal procedures for public meetings and members of the public are welcome to sit in the public gallery to observe them. Information on how to attend a meeting of the Committee can be found in the Attend a Committee Meeting section.
