Members' Research Service

The Members' Research Service provides confidential and impartial research support to the Assembly's scrutiny and legislation committees, and to all 60 individual Assembly Members and their staff. The service consists of:

  • four research teams providing specialist advice on specific areas of policy;
  • the Members’ Library, which provides a reference and information service;
  • a Brussels office which provides advice, information and assistance on EU issues.

You can access a range of briefings and information produced by the Members' Research Service from this web-site. These are primarily aimed at Assembly Members, but may also be of interest to external stakeholders.

Providing an effective research service requires us to have access to up-to-date information from external organisations and individuals with knowledge and expertise in relevant subject areas. If you would like further information about our work, or you have publications you think would be useful to our researchers, please use the contact details below.

Research papers

In addition to the research, information and Library services provided to individual Members and to the scrutiny and legislation committees of the Assembly, Members' Research Service also prepares research papers for the benefit of all Assembly Members and their staff. These cover topics of current interest within the Assembly or provide regular statistical briefing on selected subjects. They aim to be politically impartial and contain factual information and analysis as well as a range of opinions on each subject covered.

A list of recently-released research papers can be found below. All papers produced from 2004 onwards can be accessed, by subject, from the following pages:

In accordance with the Assembly Parliamentary Services Bilingual Services Statement, documents targeted at Assembly Members, which are not intended for external publication, are generally produced in English only. Nonetheless, we endeavour to make some MRS papers available in Welsh also after taking account of their subject matter, length and life span.
