SWANSEA-MUMBLES RAILWAY
To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled.
The humble petition of Mr Perrott and others,
Sheweth
That from 1807 until 1959, citizens enjoyed the Swansea-Mumbles service, the first and oldest passenger railway service in the world. Following the enactment of the South Wales Transport Act 1959, and contrary to the wishes of 12,311 signatures submitted in opposition to this private and local Act, the Oystermouth and Mumbles Railways in the then County Borough of Swansea were discontinued in controversial and unjust circumstances.
Wherefore your petitioners pray that your honourable House will support the Swansea-Mumbles railway as a ground-breaking, 21st Century, renewable-energy powered mass-public transport system, and urge the Government to investigate, in conjunction with the National Assembly for Wales, the feasibility of replacing and restoring operation of the railway for the benefit of the citizens of Swansea.
And your petitioners, as in duty bound will ever pray etc.
