P-03-087 - Wind turbine petition to The Welsh Assembly

Petition Received: 20 November 2007

Lead Petitioner: Janet Dube

Number of Petitioners: 155

Petition Wording:

Because

1.  Wales is self sufficient in energy capacity; energy conservation is a more sustainable investment than generation;

2.  Wales may have unique opportunities to contribute to sustainable development through e.g. the clean burning of coal and the manufacture of solar cells;

3.  alternative energy projects should be managed by local people rather than developers;

4.  current DTI and EU guidance on the installation of wind turbines is confusing, misleading, out of date and possibly dangerous;

5.  the Welsh Assembly’s TAN 8 promotion of wind turbines in small rural communities is divisive, difficult to manage and counter-productive;

we the undersigned beg the Welsh Assembly to reconsider its energy policy, particularly the promotion of giant wind turbines.

Assembly members, please suspend and reconsider the TAN 8 guidelines on wind turbines in rural communities.
