Proposed Healthy Eating in Schools (Wales) Measure

About the proposed Measure

The primary purpose of the proposed Measure is a holistic, comprehensive, made-in-Wales policy on nutrition which ensures that healthy eating is promoted and supported for all registered pupils of schools maintained by local education authorities in Wales.

Current Stage

Proposed Healthy Eating in Schools (Wales) Measure 2008, as amended at Stage 2 (Amendments to the Measure since the previous version are indicated by sidelining in the right margin. Wherever possible, provisions that were in the Measure as introduced retain the original numbering).

A permanent committee, Legislation Committee No.1, was established on 26 November 2008. It will consider Stage 2 proceedings of the proposed Healthy Eating in Schools (Wales) Measure.

Stage 1

Consideration and agreement of the general principles of the Measure.

Stage 1 Committee

The Committee was established on 30 April 2008 to consider and report on the general principles of the Proposed Measure (Stage 1). The Committee shall cease to exist if the proposed Measure is passed, falls or is withdrawn, or a new committee is set up to consider Stage 2 proceedings under Standing Order 23.31(ii).

The Committee published its Stage 1 Committee report on 6 October 2008.

Plenary Stage 1 Debate
The Assembly agreed to the general principles of the Measure after the Stage 1 debate in Plenary on 15 October 2008.

Stage 2

Detailed consideration of the Measure and any amendments tabled by a committee of Assembly Members.

Stage 3

Detailed consideration in Plenary of the Measure and any selected amendments:

Pre Introductory Stage

Before Introduction to the Assembly, Jenny Randerson AM undertook consultation on the draft proposed Measure.
