Policy Objectives of the Proposed Measure

1. Under Field 5.9. To modify and simplify the criteria under which children in Wales qualify for free school meals. To establish a pilot for the provision of universal free school meals in all schools drawing a significant (precise percentage to be determined) percentage of their catchment from the Communities First areas. The measure will also place a duty on education authorities to take steps to protect the identity of those who are eligible for free school meals.
