Policy Objectives of the Proposed Measure
The Measure is intended to foster greater links between schools and parents to develop strategies to tackle anti-social behaviour and bullying in schools.
Bullying and anti-social behaviour are serious problems which can hinder a child’s educational and social development in school. By ensuring that parents, children and other relevant professionals are involved in establishing an agreement with the school that the child will behave in an appropriate way, we will be able to tackle one of the major issues facing children in schools across Wales. As well as protecting those children subjected to bullying, the Measure will help to tackle some of the causes of school exclusions before it is too late, as well as helping to strengthen relationships with minority groups.
This measure falls within matter 5.5 and as such is within the legislative competence of the Assembly.
