Policy Review - English Medium Writing In Wales
University
of Wales
I am writing further to you Committee’s invitation to submit contributions to its review of English Medium Writing in Wales. You will be aware that Professor Wynn Thomas of the
Centre for Research into the English Language of Wales at the University of Wales Swansea has made a detailed written submission to the review. Professor Thomas, who is currently the Chairman of the University of Wales Press, has copied his submission to me
and I am writing to let you know that I endorse most strongly what he has written. This is particularly so with regard to: the importance of Welsh writing in English; the need for adequate, long-term funding for programmes of research, teaching and publication;
the desirability of establishing a network of research centres to work on a co-operative basis across the higher education sector (ideally through a single National Institute which could be established within the structure of the federal University of Wales);
and the need for the University of Wales Press to be supported at a level which would ensure the publication of the research of scholars in this field.Yours
sincerely, Dr L E WilliamsSecretary Generalcc. Professor M Wynn Thomas
