Education and Lifelong Learning Committee

The Committee’s broad remit was based on the portfolio of the Assembly Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning. The portfolio covered, amongst other things:
  • Schools;
  • further education;
  • higher education;
  • skills development;
  • the youth service; and
  • the careers service.
In line with the change toMinisterial titles,from 1 April 2006the Education and Lifelong Learning Committee was renamed the Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills Committee.   The main functions of subject committees, as set out in Standing Order 9, were: policy development; scrutiny of Ministers and Assembly Sponsored Bodies; and scrutiny of legislation. They also advised on budget allocations.
