Dear Sir
Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to make comment on the revised legal competency order relating to environmental protection and waste protection. You will recall that in 2007 I provided both written and oral evidence to the Committee on behalf of the Association of Chief Police Officers Cymru (ACPOC). My evidence related in the main to clarification of the extent of environmental protection being sought and encouraging the National Assembly for Wales to seek competency in relation to legislation offering protection to biodiversity.
The revised order is now clear in defining the term environmental protection. ACPOC have no further evidence to offer and would simply wish to express support for the National Assembly for Wales in seeking these measures. I will shortly be retiring but was pleased to hear that the Minister will consider seeking competency in other areas of environmental protection. ACPOC through another lead will maintain interest in this and any other areas of legal competency that might be sought.
Yours sincerely
Richard Brunstrom
Prif Gwnstabl / Chief Constable
