Policy Objectives of the Proposed Order

1. This LCO seeks powers to seek a way to provide and maintain an acceptable number of Public Toilets in Wales.

2. Currently there is no such responsibility placed upon anyone to do this and it is rarely seen as a priority due to increasingly tight and competing financial demands.

3. Access to safe, clean public toilets is a key priority for many visitors to town centres and tourist attractions.

4. There is currently an inequality of access to public toilets for women, the elderly, people with special needs and children.

5. The most relevant current legislation dates back to 1936 (Public Health Act)

6. There is currently no legislative competence.

7. An LCO would allow the Assembly to debate and make measures to update current legislation for Wales
