We, the undersigned, call upon the National Assembly for Wales to investigate the health and social well-being implications resulting from public toilets closures and to urge the Welsh Government to issue guidance to local authorities to ensure adequate public toilet provision.

  • write to the petitioner seeking their views on the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government and WLGA correspondence, as well as the short plenary debate on the issue.

The committee agreed to:

  • Write to the Minister for Social Justice and Local Government to ask whether, following the recent short plenary debate, further consideration as been given to making public toilet access a statutory requirement for local authorities;

  • Write to the Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing to ask whether a requirement for shopping centres to provide adequate toilet facilities could be implemented through planning rules;

  • Write to British Toilet Association to seek their views on the petition and on how public toilet accessibility can be improved.
