Petition received:
12 July 2007Principal Petitioner: Vivienne Hadley
Number of Petitioners: 4,514
Petition Wording:
To Protect: 1) Our Children’s Health 2) Our Homes and Schools 3) Our Environment against the pollution and dangers of opencast mining Remember the emissions coming out of Aberthaw? We, the undersigned respectfully ask the Ministers of the Welsh Assembly that we the people of Wales be given the same rights as other people in the UK, in respect of the protection of a 500 metre buffer zone between schools and homes and opencast mining. We are really anxious that this vital protection is going to be reduced to ONLY 350 metres, which we feel is totally inadequate and is a measure which pays little regard to the impact such a close proximity of heavy industry will have on our quality of life and of course upon our health. Ministers have a duty to protect the people of Wales and we feel a 500 metre BUFFER ZONE is out natural right, one that any fair minded and informed person would agree with. The 500 metre buffer zone should be implemented without delay and to avoid any ambiguity to protect us, and our children’s future. WE ARE ONLY ASKING FOR JUSTICE FROM OUR WELSH ASSEMBLYPetition Status: Closed on 17 January 2008
