Independent Review Panel on AMs' Pay and Allowances
The Panel
An Independent Review Panel was established by the National Assembly Commission in August 2008 to look at all aspects of financial support available to Assembly Members; including pay and allowances for travel, accommodation, constituency offices and support staff.
The panel was chaired by Sir Roger Jones, Pro-Chancellor of the University of Swansea. The other panel members were the Rt Hon Dafydd Wigley, Nigel Rudd, and Jackie Nickson.
The panel reviewed the current arrangements for financial support for Assembly Members and looked at best practice; received evidence about relevant matters; and consulted with relevant bodies, stakeholders and the general public.
The Panel then produced a report entitled ‘Getting it Right for Wales’ which contained a set of recommendations that will deliver a fair, equitable and transparent process for the financial support of Assembly Members.

All 108 recommendations were accepted in full by the Commission on 7 July 2009 and the Presiding Officer made a statement to that effect in Plenary the following day.
