National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography – Text Version | Brian Gibbons AM

I’m Brian Gibbons and I represent the Aberavon constituency. The constituency is very much an industrial area; it’s made up of Port Talbot, Briton Ferry, Skewen and the former mining area of upper Aberavon valley where I live. I was brought up in the West of Ireland and graduated in medicine from Galloway University in 1974. I came to continue my training in the United Kingdom in 1976. I came to South Wales in 1980 as a general practitioner in the village of Blaengwynfi. Living in the constituency I feel is a very important advantage for me as a public representative. Before I came to the Assembly in 1999 I was very involved in community activities, medical and political affairs. As well as representing the interests of my constituencies my main areas of interests are economic regeneration, promoting prosperity and well being here in Wales, European matters and I continue to have an interest in health care affairs.
