Video Biography – Text Version | Trish Law AM
I was born in Nant-y-glow , Blaenau Gwent and educated in Nant-y-glow junior school, Glan yr Afan Secondary School and Ebbw Vale College where I undertook a catering course. Before getting involved in politics I was a home care and nursing assistant in an EMI unit for Gwent Health care NHS Trust. I was mayoress of Blaenau Gwent in 1988/1989 and have served as Security of Abertillary and league of Friends of Blaenau hospital. My introduction to politics came when I started courting my late husband Peter at the age of 16. I became interested in local politics when I worked in the constituency office for Peter during his time as MP and AM. Peter’s political beliefs and his commitment to the people of Blaenau Gwent greatly influenced me in my decision to stand for the vacant Assembly seat. I very quickly got to understand the protocols and procedures and now feel confident in contributing to debates. I was delighted to have been elected to the social justice and regeneration Committee as many of the issues within its remit for example housing homeless are pertinent to Blaenau Gwent. I don’t know how but I still find time for my loving family of five children and my grandson.
