National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography – Text Version | Angela Burns AM

Hello.

My name’s Angela Burns and I’m the Welsh Conservative Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire. I’ve been a politician since May of 2007. Before that I’ve been in business for almost 30 years, but I’m also a wife, a mother and I’ve got two very young children.

It was really because of my children that I first decided I might start looking at the whole political scene. I’ve been very worried about what’s been happening locally. I care about my local hospital and whether that’s going to close; the schools that my kids and their friends and my friends’ friends’ children all go to. When you’re involved in a community, these are the things that really matter.

So, I decided to stand and I got in by a pretty skinny majority, but here I am! My only goal, really, is to see what tangible benefits I can help to deliver for my constituents and for the people of Wales in the next few years. Better schools; better hospitals; more security; good job prospects. I just decided I’d get up off my backside and go and do something about it – and this is my chance.
