National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography - Text Version | Lorraine Barrett AM

Hello, I'm Lorraine Barrett and I have been a Labour and Cooperative Assembly Member for Cardiff South & Penarth since 1999. I am married with two children, one beautiful grand-daughter and another grand-daughter on the way.

The Assembly itself is in the heart of my constituency alongside the beautiful Pierhead building which was the Dock Master's domain in the coal exporting heyday when Cardiff was the biggest coal exporter in the World.

Here in the Assembly, I chair the All Party Group on animal welfare and am a member of the Sustainability scrutiny committee and the Health, Well Being and Local Government scrutiny committee. I am also a member of the Assembly Commission.I take a close interest inequality issues particularly as I represent one of the most diverse communities in Wales.

We now have new powers available to us in the Assembly and I hope very much the people of Wales will engage with us in using those powers tocontinue to deliver the sort of services that we wanthere in Wales.

If you live in Cardiff South & Penarth, please get in touch, I'd love to hear from you.
