National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography – Text Version | Darren Millar AM

Hi. I'm Darren Millar; the Assembly Member for Clwyd West - a large and very beautiful constituency set in the heart of North Wales.

I was first elected to the Assembly in May of 2007 and immediately before becoming an Assembly Member I worked as a manager for an International charity. I've also worked as an accountant in the healthcare, telecoms and construction industries.

I first became involved in politics at the age of fifteen when I helped a general election candidate in my area. After being involved in helping election candidates for a number of years I became a candidate myself in local council elections I 1999 and was successful in becoming a local councillor.

I became Mayor of my local community shortly afterwards, and because I entered politics at a relatively young age I was the youngest serving Mayor in Wales at that time; a record which I believe remains unbroken.

I'm happily married with two fantastic children and my interests include being an active member of my local church, history and reading.
