Chair of the European and External Affairs Committee

Biography

First elected as Labour Assembly Member for the Delyn Constituency in May 2003 and re-elected May 2007. Has served as Chair of the Assembly’s European and External Affairs Committee, as a member of the Social Justice Regeneration Committee and the Environment, Planning and Countryside and North Wales Regional Committees. Previously a journalist for many years in North East Wales and Chester. Three year stint in voluntary sector as the first community care advisor of Clwyd Community Care Federation working with the sector to plan for the introduction of community care in Clwyd and supporting voluntary and other involved organisations. Worked closely with Carers and representative organisations. Researched, wrote and produced the first ever Carers Information Pack in Clwyd. Educated Grove Park Girl’s Grammar School and holds BA (Hons) degree. Honorary Fellow of the North East Wales Institute – for services to the community. County Councillor in Wrexham more than 16 years in that time was chair of social services, executive board member, scrutiny chair, deputy leader and Mayor. Set up and ran a Local Agenda 21 Group which has carried out many community projects including funding an orienteering course, litter-picking, part of cycle way etc.
