Lord Elis-Thomas was elected to the Assembly in 1999. Initially he represented the Meirionnydd Nant Conwy Assembly constituency from 1999 until 2007 and then the Dwyfor Meirionnydd constituency. He has been Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales since 1999. His political interests include the development of devolution in Wales and Wales’s position as a region in Europe. The Llywydd is also Chair of the Business Committee and Chair of the Assembly Commission.
