Video Biography – Text Version | Helen Mary Jones AM
I'm Helen Mary Jones. I'm the National Assembly Member for Llanelli for Plaid Cymru. I was born in Colchester in Essex and we moved to Montgomeryshire when I was 13 - so I suppose I could be Plaid Cymru's only Essex girl! I've worked in a range of occupations before I became an AM. I've worked in youth and community work and been a special needs teacher and immediately before I was elected I worked for the Equal Opportunities Commission in Wales as their deputy director promoting equality between women and men. I'm the mother of a twelve-year-old daughter Catrin, who I think is the most wonderful person in the world and who's very good at keeping my feet on the ground. My political interests include social justice and equality. I'm our spokesperson on Health and Social Services. I'm also Chair of the Children and Young People's Committee at the Assembly and I've a very strong interest in children's issues and children's rights. I'm also Plaid Cymru's Deputy Leader in the Assembly.
