National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography - Text Version | Nick Ramsay AM

Hello I'm Nick Ramsay and I was elected to represent the Monmouth constituency in May 2007 with a majority of 8467, the joint second largest in Wales.

Before I became an AM I've been a Welsh Conservative researcher in the Assembly since 2001 and also a County Councillor in Monmouthshire since 2004.

Monmouth is a border constituency and has historically been known as the gateway to South Wales.

The constituency covers the historic market towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow as well as a sizeable chunk of Cwmbran in the neighbouring council area of Torfaen.

Monmouthshire is a beautiful area which includes part of the Brecon Beacons National Park in the North West and also the stunning Wye Valley in the East where Wordsworth penned his famous lines about Tintern Abbey.

The main industries in the county have traditionally been farming and tourism. In the summer the area comes alive with bustling events such as the Abergavenny food festival.

I was born and grew up in the area and I am delighted to have the chance to represent the people of this very special part of the world in the National Assembly for Wales.
