Andrew Davies was elected as a Welsh Conservative Assembly Member for South Wales Central in May 2007.
Andrew's background is in the business community, as a partner in the family farming business, based near Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Andrew was born in 1968 and was educated at schools in Porthcawl and St Mary Church.
Andrew is married to Julia and they have four children, who all attend local schools.
Andrew is a former Vice President of the local Young Farmers Club and former Chairman of Creative Communities, an organisation which seeks to develop structural community development. Andrew is also a life governor of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society.
Andrew joined the Welsh Conservative Party in 1997 and stood as a Parliamentary candidate in Cardiff West in 2001 and in Brecon & Radnorshire in the 2005 General Election. Andrew is also a former Deputy Chair of South Wales Central Conservatives.
In March 2006 Andrew was selected as a regional candidate for South Wales Central and was elected with a 5.2% swing from Labour to Conservative across the region.
Andrew is currently his Party’s Spokesman on transport issues in the National Assembly. Andrew’s other political interests include education, health and rural affairs.
Andrew sits on the Assembly’s Petitions Committee, which reviews petitions from members of the public, as well as sitting on the Subordinate Legislation Committee.
Andrew’s region of South Wales Central is comprised of Cardiff, Rhondda Cynon Taff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
