National Assembly for Wales

Video Biography – Text Version | Val Lloyd AM

I was first elected to represent the Swansea East constituency in 2001. To me, it is a huge privilege and honour to represent my constituency, and I always enjoy meeting people from Swansea East who come to visit our wonderful new building.

I was born and brought up in Swansea, and was educated at Swansea High School for girls, and at the University of Wales, Swansea.

Before becoming an Assembly Member, I worked as a nurse both in primary and secondary care in Swansea, London and Zambia.

I have always had a strong interest in education, and later trained as a teacher, which took me to places such as Bahrain.

I then went on to be a senior lecturer in Nursing Studies at Swansea University.

I became interested and actively involved in politics from a young age, and represented the Morriston ward on the City and County of Swansea Council for a while before standing as an Assembly Member.

My special interests are health, community regeneration, and the environment.
