Biography

Mohammad Asghar, known as ‘Oscar’, became the first Assembly Member from an ethnic minority when he was elected to the Assembly in May 2007. Oscar is a professional accountant with a career spanning 39 years. He has stood for Plaid Cymru in previous elections, including the last General Election but in December 2009 he defected to the Conservative party. Oscar’s political interests include economic development and he feels strongly about combating social exclusion. In his spare time, Oscar is a keen cricketer and also holds a private pilot license.
