Making a Complaint
How do I make a complaint?
Complaints should be made to the National Assembly Commissioner for Standards, at the following address:
Commissioner for Standards
National Assembly for Wales
Cardiff Bay
CF99 1NA
Or by e-mail: standards.commissioner@wales.gov.uk
When is a complaint admissible?
The Procedure for Dealing with Complaints against Assembly Members sets out the terms under which a complaint is admissible. There are 6 tests that must be passed before a complaint is acceptable these are:
- it is in writing;
- it is about the conduct of an Assembly Member;
- it is not anonymous and clearly identifies the complainant in a way which provides for further communication with him/her;
- it clearly identifies the Assembly Member complained of;
- it is made within one year from the date when the complainant could reasonably have become aware of the conduct complained about; and
- it appears that there is enough substance to justify further investigation (i.e. there is enough evidence to suggest that the conduct complained about may have taken place, and if proved might amount to a breach of any of the matters encompassed within Standing Orders 16.1(i).
Further information on making complaints is available in the following 'How to Complain' leaflet. Advice and information is also available from the Commissioner’s Office at the address above or by telephoning 029 2089 8705.
