National Assembly for Wales

Environmental Features

In order to meet the design brief requirements the contractor, Taylor Woodrow and their design team, undertook the following three-step approach:

  • reduce demand for resources, energy, water and materials;
  • where the demand for energy exists, utilise sustainable and renewable technologies; and
  • cover any outstanding demand with highly efficient technologies.

The design team adopted a holistic approach, and this approach yielded an environmental design that uses natural ventilation and passive systems to heat and cool the building. The overall effect is to reduce the running costs of the building by 30-50%.
